LG dishwasher error codes: water in, water out, and the float in the base.

An LG dishwasher prints a two-letter code and most of them are the hookup — a drain hose with no high loop, a supply valve half open, the wrong soap. Find the code below, take the checks in order, and clear it with the reset in the strip above. The water and the wiring behind the dishwasher belong to a licensed installer; the codes that need a technician say so.

Covers: 2015-and-newer LG dishwashers (LDF, LDFN, LDP, LDPN, LDT, LDTS and the QuadWash and QuadWash Pro series).

LG · First

Before you clear it

LG prints two-letter codes (OE, IE, dE, UE). A lower-case letter is the display's own shape, not a different code.

1

LG prints two letters on the display (OE, IE, AE). The display's 1 reads as an I and its 0 as an O, so 1E and IE are one code.

2

The reset: press Power off, then switch the dishwasher's breaker off for one full minute (a dishwasher is hard-wired or plugged in under the sink — the breaker is the sure way), switch it back on and start a Quick cycle empty. A code that comes straight back is real.

3

A Wi-Fi model shows the code and the next step in the ThinQ app; any model with a Smart Diagnosis mark sends its fault to the app when you hold the phone to the mark and press the button the app names for three seconds.

4

A dishwasher that stops with the door lights blinking and no code is usually the door — push it shut until it latches and press Start again.

5

The model and serial plate is on the edge of the door, visible when the door is open (left or right side). Every warranty call starts with those two numbers.

No water coming in

What it means

The dishwasher waited for the fill and the water never reached the level it needs.

Check first
  1. The supply valve under the sink (the small valve on the hot line to the dishwasher) is fully open.
  2. The hot water at the kitchen faucet runs with normal pressure. A house filter or a well pump that has dropped the pressure stalls the fill.
  3. The supply line is not kinked where the dishwasher was pushed into its opening.
  4. The inlet screen where the supply meets the dishwasher's valve is clean — that is an installer's job to open.
The fix

Open the valve, straighten the line, and the code clears on the next fill. A full-pressure supply that still prints IE is the dishwasher's inlet valve — a part, a technician's job.

Will not drain

What it means

The drain pump ran and the water in the tub did not go down.

Check first
  1. The filter at the bottom of the tub: twist the round filter out and lift the flat screen, rinse the glass, the bone, the label glue.
  2. The drain hose under the sink has a high loop — up to the underside of the counter and back down — before it joins the drain or the disposal. Without the loop the sink water runs back in.
  3. A disposal fitted in the last month: the knockout plug inside its dishwasher inlet was punched out. A plug left in prints OE on the first cycle.
  4. The kitchen sink drains freely; a sink that backs up backs the dishwasher up with it.
The fix

Clean the filter, fix the loop, punch the knockout, and run a Rinse. A clean filter and an open hose that still print OE is the drain pump — a part, a technician's job.

Overfilled

What it means

The float in the base of the tub rose past its limit — more water came in than the cycle asked for.

Check first
  1. Turn the supply valve under the sink off. If the water keeps rising with the valve closed, it is coming back from the drain — the high loop is missing or the disposal is blocked.
  2. If the water stops with the valve off, the inlet valve is not closing fully.
The fix

Fix the drain loop or the clog and the code clears. An inlet valve that will not shut is a part — leave the supply valve off until it is replaced so the floor stays dry.

Stop & call

Water that keeps rising with the supply valve closed and the drain clear is a valve that cannot shut. Keep the supply off and call it in.

Leak detected

What it means

The float in the base of the dishwasher found water under the tub. The machine stops and runs the drain pump so the water does not reach the floor.

Check first
  1. The dishwasher is level — a machine tilted forward lets water out the door seal onto the floor of the base.
  2. The door gasket is clean, not torn, and the lower door seal is not loose.
  3. A spray arm is not cracked or loose; a cracked arm throws water at the door seal.
  4. Was the wrong soap used? Dish soap for the sink makes foam that pushes out the door and into the base.
The fix

Level the machine, fix the gasket, clear the suds (a Rinse with a tablespoon of vegetable oil kills the foam), dry the base and reset. A base that fills again is a hose, a pump seal or the sump inside — a service call.

Stop & call

A leak the door, the level and the soap do not explain is inside the cabinet. Switch the breaker off, close the supply valve and call it in.

Too many suds

What it means

The dishwasher paused on foam — the wrong soap, too much of it, or a rinse-aid dispenser leaking.

Check first
  1. The soap is dishwasher detergent (a pod, a powder or a gel marked for dishwashers), never dish soap for the sink.
  2. The rinse-aid cap is seated and not cracked.
The fix

Let it finish; it adds rinses by itself. Clear the leftover foam with an empty Rinse and a tablespoon of vegetable oil in the bottom of the tub.

Heater fault

What it means

The water did not heat in the time allowed, or the control measured a temperature it does not believe.

Check first
  1. The hot water at the kitchen faucet comes up hot — run it until it does before starting the dishwasher, so the machine fills hot.
  2. Reset (breaker off one minute) and run a Quick cycle.
The fix

An HE that returns with hot water at the faucet is the heater, its sensor or the relay on the board — a part, a technician's job.

Stop & call

HE after a reset is a service call. File it with the model and serial; cold cycles may still run meanwhile.

Temperature sensor

What it means

The thermistor that reads the water temperature is open or shorted.

Check first
  1. Reset (breaker off one minute) and run a Quick cycle.
The fix

A tE that returns is the thermistor in the sump — a part, a technician's job.

Stop & call

tE after a reset is a service call; nothing to check at home.

Motor fault

What it means

The wash motor did not turn when the control drove it, or it drew too much current — something jammed in the pump, or the motor.

Check first
  1. Pull the lower rack and the filter and look into the sump for glass, a bone, a pit, a bread tie — anything that would stop the impeller.
  2. The spray arms turn freely by hand.
  3. Reset (breaker off one minute) and run a Quick cycle.
The fix

A jam cleared is the fix. A clear sump that still prints LE is the wash motor or the board — a service call.

Stop & call

LE with a clear sump after a reset is the wash motor. Call it in with the code, the model and the serial.

Spray arm diverter error

What it means

The small motor that switches water between the spray arms did not reach the position the control asked for.

Check first
  1. The spray arms are seated and turn freely; a rack pushed in crooked can hold the upper arm.
  2. Reset (breaker off one minute) and run a Quick cycle.
The fix

An nE that returns is the diverter motor under the sump — a part, a technician's job.

Stop & call

nE after a reset is a service call. The dishwasher may still wash on one arm until the part is replaced.

Power failure during the cycle

What it means

Not a fault. The power went out while the dishwasher was running; the cycle stopped where it was.

Check first
  1. Press Start — most models pick the cycle up. If not, run a Rinse to finish the load.
The fix

Nothing to fix. PF with no outage is a loose connection at the junction box under the dishwasher — a licensed installer's look.

Child lock is on

What it means

Not a fault. The panel is locked; the display reads CL and the buttons do nothing.

Check first
  1. Press and hold the button marked Child Lock (the small lock symbol under it — on most models the Half Load or Dual Zone button) for three seconds.
The fix

The lock turns off and the panel answers again.

Warranty · When to file

When it's a warranty call

Every unit leaves with the manufacturer's full factory warranty. The codes below name a part inside the machine — once the checks have ruled out the install, the power and the hoses, call LG's line with the model and serial, and text us if you want a hand with the claim.

All units are surplus inventory (open box, cancelled order, customer return, overstock, or minor scratch & dent). Every unit includes the manufacturer's full factory warranty. Please inspect thoroughly in person before purchasing — cosmetic imperfections or missing accessories are possible.

Still stuck?

Text us the model number and what it's doing — we'll point you at the next step.

A fix, a part, or a warranty call — the plate's model and serial plus one line about the symptom is all it takes to tell which.

These pages are educational. Every appliance is a little different — follow the manufacturer's manual and local code, and leave gas, water heater and 240V work to a licensed installer.
