Error codes · LG · Washer-dryer combos

LG washer-dryer combo error codes: a washer's codes, plus the dryer's heater and sensors.

The LG WashCombo is a front-load washer and a heat-pump dryer in one drum. Its codes are the LG washer's — IE, OE, dE, UE, CL — with the drying side's dHE and tE family on top. No duct means no d80 / d90 airflow code; the dry side's trouble is the filters behind the door and the lower panel, the drain and the room's air. Find the code, work the checks, reset.

Covers: WashCombo all-in-one ventless washer-dryers (WM6998HBA, WM6998HVA, WM6998 and the 2024-and-newer WashCombo models) and the older WM3998 combos.

LG · First

Before you clear it

LG prints two-letter codes (OE, IE, dE, UE). A lower-case letter is the display's own shape, not a different code.

1

LG prints an E where a Samsung prints a C: IE is the fill, OE the drain, dE the door, UE the balance, CL the child lock. The display's 0 and O read the same.

2

The reset: Power off, unplug (or the breaker off) for one full minute, plug back in, run a Rinse + Spin. A code that comes straight back is real.

3

Two filters: the lint filter in the door rim after every dry, and the drain-pump / condenser filter behind the lower front panel on the manual's schedule.

4

The plate decides the plug — most WashCombo models run on 120V on their own outlet; a 240V combo follows the dryer's cord and terminal-block rules.

5

The ThinQ app and Smart Diagnosis read the code and the cycle history; the model and serial plate is inside the door rim.

Water in, water out

Code

No water coming in

What it means

The fill did not reach the level in time; the water is not getting to the valve.

Check first
  1. Both taps fully open; the hoses not kinked; the inlet screens clean.
  2. Hot to hot, cold to cold.
The fix

Open the taps, clean the screens, straighten the hoses, reset. With everything open and clean, the inlet valve is the part.

OE#2

Will not drain

What it means

The pump ran and the water did not leave in time. On a combo the drain carries the dry cycle's condensate too, so a long dry can be this code's cousin.

Check first
  1. The drain hose sits 4–6 inches into the standpipe, not kinked, not sealed.
  2. The pump filter behind the lower panel is clean.
  3. The standpipe takes a bucket of water without backing up.
The fix

Clean the pump filter, set the hose, clear the drain, reset and run a Spin. A pump that hums with a clean filter is the pump.

SUdS#3

Code

Too many suds

What it means

Foam filled the drum; the control pauses to let it settle.

Check first
  1. HE detergent only, the manual's amount — the combo uses little water.
  2. The pump filter is clean.
The fix

Let the cycle finish, run a Rinse + Spin empty, use less detergent.

FE#4
Service call
Code

Overfill

What it means

The water kept rising after the valve should have closed.

Check first
  1. Turn both taps off at once if the drum is filling with the machine idle.
  2. The reset after the taps are closed.
The fix

A valve that lets water in with the machine off is the inlet valve — close the taps and call it in.

Stop & call

Water rising with the combo off is a stuck inlet valve — close both taps and make the warranty call with the model and serial.

Door not closed or locked

What it means

The latch did not report closed or the lock did not engage.

Check first
  1. The door pushed firmly shut with nothing in the gasket fold.
  2. The latch and strike clean.
The fix

Close firmly and restart. A shut, clean door that still reports open is the lock assembly.

Stop & call

A door that is firmly shut and clean and still reports open is the door lock assembly — a warranty call.

Unbalanced load

What it means

The drum could not balance the load for the spin.

Check first
  1. Every shipping bolt is out of the back.
  2. The feet set and locked so the cabinet does not rock; a pedestal bolted.
  3. One heavy item alone — add two towels.
The fix

Bolts out, feet level and locked, load balanced. Unbalance that stays on a level, balanced machine is the suspension — a warranty call.

CL#7

Code

Child lock on

What it means

Not a fault: the control panel is locked and ignores every button.

Check first
  1. Hold the Child Lock button (or the two buttons the panel marks) for three seconds until CL clears.
The fix

Nothing to fix — it is a setting.

LE#8

Also printed as LE1

Check, then call
Code

Motor locked

What it means

The motor could not turn the drum — an overloaded drum or a motor fault.

Check first
  1. The drum is not packed past the manual's wash capacity (half of it for a wash + dry cycle).
  2. The reset: unplug one minute, run an empty Spin.
The fix

Lighten the load and reset. An LE on an empty drum after the reset is the motor or its sensor — a warranty call.

Stop & call

An LE on an empty drum after one full reset is the drive motor or the hall sensor — a warranty call with the model and serial.

Section 3 of 3

The drying side

A heat-pump dryer has no vent and no d80 / d90 airflow code — its trouble is the filters, the drain and the room's air.

dHE#9

Also printed as dHF

Check, then call
Code

Drying heater / heat-pump fault

What it means

The dry side could not reach or hold its temperature — the heat pump's air is blocked or a heating part failed.

Check first
  1. The lint filter in the door rim and the lower-panel filter are both clean.
  2. The grilles have their clearance; the room is under the manual's ambient limit.
  3. The reset: unplug one minute, then a dry on half a load.
The fix

Clean both filters, give it air, reset. A dHE that returns with clean filters in a cool room is the heat-pump circuit — a warranty call.

Stop & call

A dHE that returns with both filters clean, the grilles clear and the room cool is the drying side's heater or compressor circuit — a warranty call with the model and serial.

tE1#10

Code

Thermistor fault

What it means

A temperature sensor on the wash or the dry side read open or shorted.

Check first
  1. The reset: unplug one minute.
  2. The filters clean — a sensor packed in lint reads wrong.
The fix

Clean the filters and reset. A tE that stays is the thermistor — a part under warranty.

Stop & call

A tE that returns after the reset with clean filters is the thermistor or its wiring — a warranty call with the model and serial.

AE#11
Check, then call
Code

Water in the base

What it means

The leak sensor in the base saw water — on a combo, often the condensate path.

Check first
  1. The drain hose is in the standpipe with an air gap, not siphoning.
  2. Both fill hoses and their washers are dry at both ends.
  3. The detergent amount — a suds overflow reads as a leak.
The fix

Fix the hose or the detergent, dry the base, reset. Water in the base with every hose and the drain dry is an internal leak — a warranty call.

Stop & call

Water in the base with every hose and the drain dry is an internal hose or the tub seal — a warranty call with the model and serial.

PF#12
Fix at home
Code

Power failure during the cycle

What it means

The power dropped mid-cycle; the control remembers.

Check first
  1. A dedicated outlet of the plate's voltage, not shared with a freezer or a heater; a 240V model's cord connections tight.
  2. The breaker and any GFCI reset.
The fix

Restart the cycle. A PF that repeats on a dedicated, correct circuit is the board.

When it's a warranty call

Every unit leaves with the manufacturer's full factory warranty. The codes below name a part inside the machine — once the checks have ruled out the install, the power and the hoses, call LG's line with the model and serial, and text us if you want a hand with the claim.

All units are surplus inventory (open box, cancelled order, customer return, overstock, or minor scratch & dent). Every unit includes the manufacturer's full factory warranty. Please inspect thoroughly in person before purchasing — cosmetic imperfections or missing accessories are possible.

Still stuck?

Text us the model number and what it's doing — we'll point you at the next step.

A fix, a part, or a warranty call — the plate's model and serial plus one line about the symptom is all it takes to tell which.

These pages are educational. Every appliance is a little different — follow the manufacturer's manual and local code, and leave gas, water heater and 240V work to a licensed installer.
