Error codes · Bosch · Refrigerators

Bosch refrigerator error codes: most of them are a door left open, a mode set by accident, or a filter.

A Bosch refrigerator rarely prints a fault — what its panel shows are states: a door alarm, a temperature display flashing after a long open door, SuperCool or SuperFreeze switched on, Vacation or Sabbath mode set by accident, a filter reminder. Find the state below and take the checks in order; a numbered E code is the one thing here that is a technician's.

Before you clear it

Bosch prints E codes (E15, E24, E25). A dishwasher with no display blinks the Clean or Rinse light; the manual's table reads the pattern.

1

The panel shows the two set temperatures and a row of symbols; a flashing temperature, a lit symbol or the alarm tone is the refrigerator telling you something, not failing. A numbered E code is a technical fault Bosch publishes no home check for.

2

The reset: unplug the refrigerator (or switch its breaker off) for one full minute and plug it back in — the compressor waits a few minutes before it starts, so give it 10 minutes before judging. The alarm tone is silenced with the Alarm (or Alarm off) key.

3

A refrigerator that was just moved or just delivered needs 24 hours to reach temperature with the doors shut; the temperature display flashes or the alarm sounds until it gets there. A temperature that never settles after a day is a call.

4

A Home Connect model (most 800 series since 2019) shows the door alarm, the temperature and the modes in the Home Connect app, and the app can turn the modes off.

5

The model plate — the E-Nr and the FD number — is inside the fresh-food compartment, on the left wall near the top or just inside the door frame. Every warranty call starts with those two numbers.

The alarms

Door alarm#1

Door left open

What it means

Not a fault. A door has been open past about a minute (two on some models) and the tone sounds; the door symbol lights on the panel.

Check first
  1. Close every door and drawer — a crisper not pushed home, a bin shoved against a door, or a jar in the door rack holding the gasket off the frame keeps the alarm on.
  2. Press the Alarm key to silence it. If the tone comes back with every door shut, run a hand around each gasket for a fold or a stuck corner, and look at the hinge for a door that sags.
The fix

Seat the gasket, move what held the door, and the alarm stays off. A door that closes and still reads open is the door switch or a hinge that has dropped — the switch is a part, a dropped hinge is a technician's adjustment.

Compartment too warm

What it means

Not a fault by itself. The fresh-food or freezer display flashes (and the tone sounds) because the compartment is warmer than its setting — a door left open, a big warm load, or a long power cut. The display shows the warmest temperature the compartment reached once it recovers.

Check first
  1. Press the Alarm key to silence it and note the number — that is the warmest it got, and whether the food is still good.
  2. Give it 24 hours with the doors shut after a new load or a power cut; the flashing stops on its own when the setting is reached.
  3. The condenser at the back or under the kick plate is clear of dust, the refrigerator stands with the clearance the install sheet asks for, and the freezer fan hums with the door open (press the light switch to run it).
The fix

Nothing to fix when it recovers. A compartment that flashes again with the doors shut and the condenser clean is not cooling — a fan, a defrost fault with the back wall iced over, or the sealed system. That is a service call.

Stop & call

A temperature alarm that returns with the doors shut and the condenser clean is a cooling fault — a service call. Move what you can to another freezer meanwhile; on a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call.

Section 2 of 2

Modes set on purpose or by accident

A numbered E code on the display (E01, E02 and the rest) is a technical fault Bosch publishes no home check for — unplug for one full minute; a code that returns is a service call, filed with the number, the E-Nr and the FD.

SuperCool#3

Also printed as SuperFreeze · Super · Snowflake symbol

Fix at home
Code

SuperCool or SuperFreeze is on

What it means

Not a fault. SuperCool drops the fresh-food compartment to its coldest for a few hours and SuperFreeze runs the freezer at full power for up to two days — for a big warm load. The compressor runs without stopping and the fridge is louder.

Check first
  1. Press the SuperCool (or SuperFreeze) key once; the symbol goes out. Both modes also end on their own — SuperCool after about six hours, SuperFreeze after about two days.
The fix

Nothing to fix. Lettuce freezing in the crisper is SuperCool left on, not a bad thermostat.

Vacation#4

Also printed as Vacation mode · Holiday mode · Eco mode

Fix at home

Vacation mode is on

What it means

Not a fault. The fresh-food compartment is held warmer (about 57°F) to save energy while nobody is home; the freezer runs as usual. Milk spoils in a day in it.

Check first
  1. Press the Vacation key (or find Vacation in the settings menu) and turn it off; the fresh-food display returns to its set number.
The fix

Nothing to fix. Leave the fresh-food compartment empty when the mode is used on purpose.

Sabbath#5

Also printed as Sabbath mode

Fix at home
Code

Sabbath mode is on

What it means

Not a fault. The lights stay off with the door open, the panel is dark, the alarms and the ice maker are off, and the display does not change — set for the Sabbath, and sometimes left on.

Check first
  1. Press and hold the key the manual names (the settings or the Alarm key, about five seconds) until the panel wakes; on a Home Connect model the app ends it too.
The fix

Nothing to fix. The ice maker and the lights return when the mode ends; it ends by itself after about 96 hours on most models.

Filter#6

Water filter reminder

What it means

Not a fault. The water filter has run about six months (or its gallon count) and the panel asks for a new one; the water and ice still flow.

Check first
  1. The filter sits behind the small door inside the fresh-food compartment on most models (upper right, or the left wall) — turn it a quarter turn out, push the new one in and turn it to lock.
  2. Run about two gallons of water through the dispenser to flush the carbon fines.
  3. Press and hold the Filter (or Reset) key for about three seconds until the symbol goes out.
The fix

A new filter and the reset clear it for another six months. A dispenser that slows to a trickle before the reminder is a filter that clogged early on sediment — change it sooner.

Wi-Fi symbol#7

Also printed as Home Connect · Connectivity symbol

Fix at home
Code

Home Connect state

What it means

Not a fault. The Wi-Fi symbol lit means the refrigerator is on the home network and the Home Connect app can see it; the symbol flashing means it is in pairing mode or has lost the network.

Check first
  1. A flashing symbol with the router off, or after a new router: hold the connectivity key the manual names (about three seconds) to start pairing, then follow the app.
  2. The refrigerator cools exactly the same with the symbol off — the network is for the app only.
The fix

Pair it again, or hold the key to turn Wi-Fi off and let the symbol go dark. Nothing on the cooling side is involved.

Warranty · When to file

When it's a warranty call

Every unit leaves with the manufacturer's full factory warranty. The codes below name a part inside the machine — once the checks have ruled out the install, the power and the hoses, call Bosch's line with the model and serial, and text us if you want a hand with the claim.

Nothing on this page is a straight service call — every code here starts with a check you can make.

All units are surplus inventory (open box, cancelled order, customer return, overstock, or minor scratch & dent). Every unit includes the manufacturer's full factory warranty. Please inspect thoroughly in person before purchasing — cosmetic imperfections or missing accessories are possible.

Still stuck?

Text us the model number and what it's doing — we'll point you at the next step.

A fix, a part, or a warranty call — the plate's model and serial plus one line about the symptom is all it takes to tell which.

These pages are educational. Every appliance is a little different — follow the manufacturer's manual and local code, and leave gas, water heater and 240V work to a licensed installer.
