Error codes · Bosch · Ranges & ovens

Bosch range & oven error codes: most of them are a key held down, a lock, or a mode nobody meant to set.

A Bosch oven prints an E with three digits, and it prints them rarely — a key held down by a towel is the common one, and the rest are technical faults the maker publishes with no home check. What people call about far more are the states: the key symbol, Demo mode, a clock blinking after a storm, the door locked after a self-clean. Find the code or the state below and take the checks in order.

Covers: 2015-and-newer 800 series slide-in ranges (HEI8056U and HEI8054U electric, HGI8056UC gas, HDI8056U dual fuel, HII8056U induction) and the 500 and 800 series wall ovens (HBL5451UC, HBL8453UC, HBL8743UC, HBN8451UC, HBE5453UC).

Before you clear it

Bosch prints E codes (E15, E24, E25). A dishwasher with no display blinks the Clean or Rinse light; the manual's table reads the pattern.

1

The display prints a code as E011 or E305 — three digits after the E. A word in the display (Demo, Sabbath, the key symbol) is a mode, not a fault, and the table below clears each one.

2

The reset: switch the range's double breaker (or the wall oven's) off for one full minute and back on. An electric range and a wall oven run on 240V; a gas range plugs into a 120V outlet behind it and unplugs like any appliance. A code that comes straight back is real.

3

A power cut leaves the clock blinking and the oven refusing to start until the time is set — set it from the clock or settings key and carry on. On the 800 series the settings menu (hold the settings key) holds the clock, the lock, Demo mode and Sabbath; a mode set there is cleared there.

4

A Home Connect model shows the code and the next step in the Home Connect app. The model plate — the E-Nr and the FD number — is on the frame under the control panel or behind the oven door on a range, and on the frame inside the door opening on a wall oven.

5

Gas and 240V work belong to a licensed installer: a gas smell at the range is turn the gas off at the valve behind it, open the room and call the gas company — never a code to look up.

Section 1 of 2

The oven codes

An electric oven that never heats and prints nothing is an element — look through the window for the bake element glowing a minute into a bake; a cracked or blistered element is replaced from inside the oven, a part. A gas oven that lights late with a whump, or a burner that clicks and never lights, prints nothing either — the igniter or a dirty burner, gas parts, a technician's job.

Code

Key held down or stuck

What it means

The control saw a key pressed for longer than it allows — a towel over the panel, a pot handle on a touch key, water on the glass, or a key stuck on the board.

Check first
  1. Take everything off the control area and wipe it dry — a wet or greasy touch panel holds a key down.
  2. Press each key once and feel for one that does not spring back on a panel with buttons.
  3. Switch the breaker off for one minute and back on.
The fix

A clean, dry panel that prints E011 again has a key stuck on the control board — the panel assembly is the part. The oven still bakes from the knobs on a range with knobs meanwhile.

Oven control technical fault

What it means

The control found a fault in the oven's own sensing, locking or electronics. Bosch publishes E101, E102, E104, E105, E115, E118 and E305 together as technical faults with no home check — the number names the part for the technician.

Check first
  1. Switch the breaker off for five full minutes, switch it on, set the clock and try a bake.
  2. Write the number down exactly as it printed, and what the oven was doing — preheating, self-cleaning, idle.
The fix

A three-digit code that returns after the five-minute power cut is a part inside the oven — the temperature sensor, the door lock motor, the relay board or the control. A service call.

Stop & call

An E1xx or E305 after the reset is a service call. Stop using the oven until it is looked at; on a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call, filed with the number, the E-Nr and the FD.

Section 2 of 2

Not a fault

An induction range's cooktop prints its own short marks on the burner displays — a pan symbol or u when no pan it can use sits on the zone, H while the glass is still hot, F2 when the electronics ran hot; they are cooktop marks, and the Bosch cooktop page reads them.

Key symbol#3

Also printed as Lock symbol · Childproof lock

Fix at home
Code

Childproof lock is on

What it means

Not a fault. The control is locked so a child cannot turn the oven on — the key symbol shows and the keys do nothing.

Check first
  1. Press and hold the key the panel marks with the key symbol (the lock or the settings key on most) for about four seconds until the symbol goes out.
The fix

The lock turns off and the oven takes settings again. On the 800 series the lock can be set to come on by itself after a few minutes idle — that is in the settings menu, and it is turned off there.

Demo#4

Also printed as Demo mode · Showroom mode

Fix at home
Code

Demo mode is on

What it means

Not a fault. The oven is in the showroom mode — the display works, every key answers, and nothing heats. It is a setting, and it rides along from the store floor on some units.

Check first
  1. Open the settings menu (hold the settings key until the menu shows) and find Demo mode; set it to Off and leave the menu.
The fix

The oven heats on the next bake. A unit that cannot leave Demo mode from the menu is a control that needs the technician's key sequence — a service call, not a part.

Sabbath#5

Also printed as Sabbath mode

Fix at home
Code

Sabbath mode is on

What it means

Not a fault. The oven holds a bake temperature for up to about 74 hours with the display dark and the lights, tones and timers off — set on purpose for the Sabbath, and sometimes by accident.

Check first
  1. Press and hold the key the manual names to end Sabbath (the settings or the mode key, about three seconds) until the display wakes; the oven turns off with it.
The fix

Nothing to fix. The oven is back to normal once the mode ends; it never carries over a power cut.

12:00#6

Also printed as Clock blinking · Set the time

Fix at home
Code

Power failure — clock not set

What it means

Not a fault. The power went out and the control lost the time; most Bosch ovens will not start a bake until the clock is set.

Check first
  1. Set the clock from the clock or settings key. A clock that blinks with no outage is a plug loose in its outlet on a gas range, or a breaker that is tripping.
The fix

Set the time and carry on. A bake that was running when the power went is cancelled, not resumed — start it again.

Door locked#7

Also printed as Lock symbol (self-clean)

Fix at home
Code

Door locked after self-clean

What it means

Not a fault. The door locks for the self-clean cycle and stays locked until the oven has cooled below about 500°F — up to an hour after the clean ends.

Check first
  1. Wait. The lock symbol goes out and the latch releases by itself once the oven is cool; do not pull on the door.
  2. A door still locked hours after the oven is cold: switch the breaker off for one minute and back on — the latch motor runs home on power-up.
The fix

A door that stays locked on a cold oven after the power cut has a latch motor or a door-lock switch that is not reporting — a part, a service call.

Warranty · When to file

When it's a warranty call

Every unit leaves with the manufacturer's full factory warranty. The codes below name a part inside the machine — once the checks have ruled out the install, the power and the hoses, call Bosch's line with the model and serial, and text us if you want a hand with the claim.

All units are surplus inventory (open box, cancelled order, customer return, overstock, or minor scratch & dent). Every unit includes the manufacturer's full factory warranty. Please inspect thoroughly in person before purchasing — cosmetic imperfections or missing accessories are possible.

Still stuck?

Text us the model number and what it's doing — we'll point you at the next step.

A fix, a part, or a warranty call — the plate's model and serial plus one line about the symptom is all it takes to tell which.

These pages are educational. Every appliance is a little different — follow the manufacturer's manual and local code, and leave gas, water heater and 240V work to a licensed installer.
