Error codes · Electrolux · Dishwashers

Electrolux dishwasher error codes: water that would not come in, would not go out, or went where it should not.

An Electrolux dishwasher prints a lower-case i and two characters, on the control it shares with Frigidaire. Two codes carry most days — i10 for water in and i20 for water out — and one, i30, is the code you act on before you read anything else: water is under the tub. The rest are the motor, the heater and the board, or states the display shows while it works. Find the code, work the checks in order, and clear it with Cancel.

Covers: 2015-and-newer dishwashers — the IQ-Touch EIDW models (EI24ID50, EI24ID81) and the newer EDSH4944 and EDSH4951 — on the same control as the Frigidaire line.

Before you clear it

Electrolux prints E codes (E11, E21, E41); the service mode reads the history back.

1

The display prints i and two characters (i10, i20, i30, iC0). A number counting down from 24 is the delay start, and a number from 1 to 199 is the minutes left in the cycle — neither is a code.

2

The reset: press Cancel once (the dishwasher drains for about a minute), then once more. If the code stays, switch the dishwasher's breaker off for 3 minutes and back on — most are hard-wired with no plug to pull.

3

PRESS START scrolling across the display is an instruction, not a fault — press Start and close the door within 5 seconds.

4

Water and the drain are the install: the drain hose must rise in a high loop under the sink (or pass through an air gap on the counter) before it reaches the disposer or the sink tailpiece, and a new disposer must have its knockout punched out. That plumbing is a licensed plumber's work.

5

The model and serial plate is on the edge of the door — open it and look along the top or the right side of the inner door. Every warranty call starts with those two numbers.

Fill fault

What it means

The dishwasher opened its valve and did not see enough water come in. The supply is off, slow or kinked.

Check first
  1. The shutoff under the sink that feeds the dishwasher is open all the way — a valve a quarter turn open fills so slowly the control gives up.
  2. The supply line under the sink is not kinked or pinched where it bends up through the cabinet floor.
  3. The hot tap at the sink runs with normal pressure; a house filter that has clogged, or a well pump between cycles, starves the fill.
  4. A newly installed dishwasher: the line was flushed before it was hooked up — grit from the install plugs the valve screen.
The fix

Open the shutoff, straighten the line, press Cancel and start a cycle. With the supply good, the inlet valve on the dishwasher (behind the kick plate, where the line attaches) is not opening — a part, and on a machine under warranty a warranty call. Water work is a licensed plumber's.

Did not drain

What it means

The pump ran and the tub did not empty in the time allowed. iF0 is the same drain trouble on the newer displays. i40, below, points at the filter itself.

Check first
  1. A disposer installed with the dishwasher: the knockout plug inside the disposer's dishwasher inlet is out — the single most common cause on a new install.
  2. The drain hose is not pinched where it passes through the cabinet, and it loops up high (at least 32 inches off the floor) before it drops to the drain or the disposer.
  3. The filter and the glass trap in the bottom of the tub are out and rinsed, and the sump under them is clear of food.
  4. The sink drain itself runs free.
The fix

Clear the drain path, press Cancel twice and run a cycle. A clear hose and a clean sump with the pump humming and moving nothing is the drain pump — a technician's part.

Filter or sump clogged

What it means

Food has built up in the sump and the water cannot get to the pump.

Check first
  1. Turn the lower spray arm aside, lift out the cylinder filter and the flat screen under it, and rinse both under the tap with a soft brush.
  2. Reach into the sump with a flashlight and a rag; pull out the glass chip, the label, the seed.
The fix

Clean the filters and the sump, seat them back the way they came out, and run a cycle. Rinse the filter weekly in a house that scrapes plates rather than rinses them.

Water in the base

What it means

The float in the pan under the tub lifted — water is collecting under the dishwasher. The control shuts the valve and runs the drain pump to protect the floor.

Check first
  1. Turn the shutoff under the sink off first.
  2. Pull the kick plate off the bottom front and look in with a flashlight: a drip at the inlet valve, a wet drain hose, or water running down from the door — the tub overfilled, or the door seal leaks.
  3. The dishwasher is level front to back and side to side; a dishwasher leaning forward pours out the door.
The fix

Dry the pan with a towel (tip the float back down by hand), fix what dripped, and run a cycle with the shutoff open while you watch the pan. A pan that fills again with every connection dry is a leak inside — a tub seal, a pump seal, the heater gasket — a technician's job.

Stop & call

Water under a dishwasher is stop, not wait: turn the water off under the sink and leave it off until it is looked at. On a machine under warranty this is a warranty service call.

Wash motor fault

What it means

The control drove the wash motor (or the drain motor) and it did not answer the way it should.

Check first
  1. The spray arms turn freely by hand and nothing has fallen into the sump to jam the impeller.
  2. Press Cancel, switch the breaker off for 5 minutes, and run a cycle.
The fix

i50 that returns with a clear sump is the wash motor, the drain motor or the board that drives them — a technician's part.

Stop & call

i50 after a reset is a service call. On a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call.

Heater fault

What it means

The water did not heat the way the control expected — the heater, its sensor or its relay.

Check first
  1. The water at the sink's hot tap reaches 120°F within a minute; run it hot before you start a cycle so the dishwasher starts warm.
  2. Press Cancel, switch the breaker off for 5 minutes, and run a cycle.
The fix

i60 that returns with hot water at the sink is the heating element, its temperature sensor or the control — a technician's part. The dishwasher still washes cold meanwhile.

Stop & call

i60 after a reset is a service call; a burnt smell from under the tub at any point is stop, breaker off, and call. On a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call.

Control board fault

What it means

The electronic control failed its own check or lost its link to the panel.

Check first
  1. Press Cancel, switch the breaker off for 5 minutes, and try a cycle.
The fix

iC0 that returns is the control board — a technician's part. Nothing to reach at home.

Stop & call

iC0 after a reset is a service call. On a machine under warranty it is a warranty service call.

Section 3 of 3

States, not faults

CL#8

Also printed as Cd

Fix at home

Door open

What it means

Not a fault. The door is not closed and latched, so the cycle will not start.

Check first
  1. Push the door shut until the latch clicks; a rack pushed out past its stop, or a tall pot in the top rack, keeps it from latching.
  2. The latch strike at the top of the tub is clean and nothing is bent.
The fix

The code goes out when the door latches. A door that latches and still prints CL has a latch switch that is not reporting — a part.

Loc#9

Also printed as LOC

Fix at home
Code

Controls locked

What it means

Not a fault. The panel is locked, so a key press does nothing and the display reads Loc or lights the padlock.

Check first
  1. Press and hold the Lock key (the panel prints it, often under the Delay or Options key) for 3 seconds until the lock light goes out.
The fix

The panel answers again.

PF#10
Fix at home

Power failure

What it means

Not a fault. The power went out mid-cycle; the dishwasher stopped where it was.

Check first
  1. Press Cancel once to clear it, then start a new cycle.
The fix

Nothing to fix. PF with no outage is a loose connection at the junction box under the dishwasher — an electrician's look.

Warranty · When to file

When it's a warranty call

Every unit leaves with the manufacturer's full factory warranty. The codes below name a part inside the machine — once the checks have ruled out the install, the power and the hoses, call Electrolux's line with the model and serial, and text us if you want a hand with the claim.

All units are surplus inventory (open box, cancelled order, customer return, overstock, or minor scratch & dent). Every unit includes the manufacturer's full factory warranty. Please inspect thoroughly in person before purchasing — cosmetic imperfections or missing accessories are possible.

Still stuck?

Text us the model number and what it's doing — we'll point you at the next step.

A fix, a part, or a warranty call — the plate's model and serial plus one line about the symptom is all it takes to tell which.

These pages are educational. Every appliance is a little different — follow the manufacturer's manual and local code, and leave gas, water heater and 240V work to a licensed installer.
