Amana refrigerator error codes: what the display shows is a setting, not a fault.

An Amana refrigerator prints no fault codes a customer can read — the side-by-side's dispenser display shows a state (the door left open, cooling switched off, a filter due, the lock), and the top-freezer and bottom-freezer models have a dial and no display at all. Every state below ends at a button. A cabinet that is warm with nothing showing goes to the refrigerator symptom page.

Covers: 2015-and-newer side-by-side (ASI2175, ASI2575), bottom-freezer (ABB1924, ABB2224) and top-freezer (ART104, ART308, ART318) refrigerators.

Before you clear it

Amana prints F-and-E codes on a display, or blinks a cycle light on a washer with none.

1

Only the ASI side-by-sides with a dispenser have a display. An ART top-freezer or an ABB bottom-freezer has a temperature dial inside and prints nothing; a warm cabinet on one of those is the symptom page, not a code.

2

The reset: unplug the refrigerator (or switch its breaker off) for one full minute, plug it in and give it 24 hours before judging the temperature.

3

The service diagnostic is on the tech sheet behind the base grille and is written for a technician; the cooling test it runs is not a home check.

4

The model and serial plate is on the left wall inside the fresh-food compartment, near the top. Every warranty call starts with those two numbers.

Door Ajar#1

Code

Door open alarm

What it means

Not a fault. A door has been open more than about five minutes; the alarm chimes and the door icon shows.

Check first
  1. Push both doors shut, firmly; a door stops a quarter inch short when a jar is sitting proud on a door shelf.
  2. A door that drifts back open is a refrigerator not tilted back enough — raise the front leveling feet a half turn each so the doors swing closed on their own.
  3. The gaskets are clean and seal all the way around; a gasket folded under at a corner holds the door off its switch.
The fix

Close the door and the alarm stops. If the alarm sounds with every door shut tight, the door switch is the part — a service call. Press any button to silence it meanwhile.

Cooling Off#2

Also printed as OFF · Cooling OFF

Fix at home
Code

Cooling is turned off

What it means

Not a fault. The cooling was switched off at the panel — the lights work and nothing gets cold. It happens during a cleaning, a move, or a long press on the panel.

Check first
  1. Press and hold the two buttons the display names for Cooling On/Off (on most ASI models Lock and Temp together) for three seconds until the temperatures show again.
The fix

Cooling comes back on; give it 24 hours to reach temperature. A refrigerator that stays warm with cooling on is the refrigerator symptom page.

Showroom#3

Also printed as Demo · Showroom mode

Fix at home
Code

Showroom (demo) mode

What it means

Not a fault. The refrigerator is in the mode a store floor uses — the lights and the display work, the cooling never runs.

Check first
  1. The display reads Showroom, or shows it when a button is pressed.
  2. Press and hold the pair of buttons the use-and-care guide names for Showroom on your model (on many dispenser models the same Lock-and-Temp hold as Cooling On/Off) for three seconds until the word goes out.
The fix

Cooling starts once the mode is off; give it 24 hours. The guide for the exact model is on amana.com by model number and names the pair.

Lock#4

Also printed as Dispenser Lock · Control Lock

Fix at home
Code

Dispenser and panel locked

What it means

Not a fault. The dispenser and the panel are locked so nothing dispenses when a child leans on the paddle; the lock icon shows.

Check first
  1. Press and hold Lock for three seconds until the icon goes out.
The fix

The dispenser and the panel answer again.

Replace Filter#5

Also printed as Order Filter · Filter

Fix at home
Code

Water filter due

What it means

Not a fault. Six months of use have passed since the filter was reset; the dispenser may slow before it is changed.

Check first
  1. Change the filter — it sits in the base grille on the ASI side-by-side and turns out a quarter turn; the new one turns in until it stops.
  2. Run about 4 gallons through the dispenser to clear the air and the carbon fines.
  3. Press and hold the Filter button for three seconds until the light resets.
The fix

The light resets. A dispenser still slow with a new filter is the inlet valve or frozen water in the line — the refrigerator symptom page.

Warranty · When to file

When it's a warranty call

Every unit leaves with the manufacturer's full factory warranty. The codes below name a part inside the machine — once the checks have ruled out the install, the power and the hoses, call Amana's line with the model and serial, and text us if you want a hand with the claim.

Nothing on this page is a straight service call — every code here starts with a check you can make.

All units are surplus inventory (open box, cancelled order, customer return, overstock, or minor scratch & dent). Every unit includes the manufacturer's full factory warranty. Please inspect thoroughly in person before purchasing — cosmetic imperfections or missing accessories are possible.

Still stuck?

Text us the model number and what it's doing — we'll point you at the next step.

A fix, a part, or a warranty call — the plate's model and serial plus one line about the symptom is all it takes to tell which.

These pages are educational. Every appliance is a little different — follow the manufacturer's manual and local code, and leave gas, water heater and 240V work to a licensed installer.
